I don’t care that this is distinctly not the first time Oda Nobunaga has been turned female, although it is odd that anyone would still want to tackle this idea. (Battle Girls, Time Paradox, and Sengoku Collection went there not too long before. Although nobody has quite made it work yet and only ever come to being tolerable.) Nor is it the first time a time-travelling boy gets a harem either, though, and that is a staple of anime. Nobody ever said old ideas couldn’t be made good, it’s just that if you have an old idea why not make it good instead of forgettable? The worst mistake it seems, is to take the Oda Nobunaga character which has been done many times before, and just make him another bratty, blonde, annoying stereotype it is difficult to like, let alone think is someone powerful.
It’s not even the fact that the characters are made female, I don’t care about that and in fact there is nothing wrong with it if you don’t turn it into a lame joke or as an excuse for harems. Why make them so obviously not the warlords they are depicting, and ruin any chance of me believing even for a half a second that these characters should be taken seriously? Come on, at least try to make me believe your heroine isn’t lame in the role she is trying to fill, or I will just get bored and compare it to other more serious stuff.
This is ok, the characters are dumb. Oda Nobuna is dull. It is so painfully obvious that this Nobunaga rip off isn’t going to be any different than usual. It is not going to stand out among anything else set in this era and about these people.
